The Internet for Helpful Staff


Description

This 4-hour hands-on course is designed to train Helpful Staff to use the Internet as a tool in assisting their clients seeking employment and career opportunities. The course assumes the counselors possess an intermediate level of computing skills including navigation, browser manipulation, subscribing to listservs, as well as basic computing tasks such as up/downloading, file management, FTP and security measures; a general familiarity with the Internet; and a knowledge of general employment trends both statewide and nationally.

Objectives

Counselors taking this course will:
  • Have the ability to manage the available search tools to implement effective and timely Internet employment-related research.
  • Integrate and utilize a variety of Internet and programming language terms commonly used in this field.
  • Demonstrate an ability to locate job-related resources using the Website.
  • Be able to guide their clients in conducting online customized job searches using the Internet.
