Milarepa Day
Sunday February 28

This day celebrates the enlightenment and life example of Milarepa. The celebration is an all day guru yoga practice, which includes chanting the Milarepa sadhana and reading the songs of the lineage fathers in The Rain of Wisdom. Most people in Juneau are unfamiliar with this type of lengthy Vajrayana Buddhist practice but those who have done it before found it very inspiring and profound. It is encouraged that people make an effort to stay for the whole program if possible, but you are certainly welcome to come for any portion of the day as long as you enter or depart at the scheduled break times of 11 am, 1 pm, 4:30 pm, or 6 pm. Milarepa

Most of the day will be spent reading aloud from the Rain of Wisdom. If you have a copy of this text, please bring it, or consider loaning it to us if you cannot attend, because it is out of print and we have only a few copies. This very sacred book is a collection of "vajra songs" or "dohas" which are the direct personal expressions of the spiritual journeys and realizations of our ancestors, the Kagyu lineage holders. In chanting them, we attune our minds to theirs, invoking the inspiration of their sanity and devotion.

The practice will begin at 9 am on Sunday the 28th and will conclude before 9 pm. possibly as early as 7. We will conclude with a Guru Yoga Feast.

Everyone who is interested is welcome to attend. The normal Sunday sitting will be held at the Yoga Den at 4:30.

Contact Susan Chapman (schapman@ptialaska.net or 586-6150) for further information.
